Food Huggers does not do enough to ensure that their supply chain confirms with fair trade practices, provides a living wage and they are not sufficiently transparent with their sustainability efforts.
That said, food waste is a huge problem in the world, with the average western household throwing away as much as 30% – 40% of their food. This waste puts a huge strain on the global supply chain, increase greenhouse gasses caused by food transport and strains the global food production capacity. Food Hugger’s mission to reduce this waste is one that we can fully support.
Additionally, as their product is made from silicone (and backed by a lifetime warranty) use of their product can help people reduce the production, sales and disposal of other food storage containment products that are otherwise made of plastic, in many cases single-use.
We encourage Food Huggers to look beyond their product at the rest of their business practices and supply chain to improve their efforts at sustainability, but they are on the right path.
